Job Description
Design and Project Management
• Represent the Global Design (GD) division and Marriott, both internally and externally, on projects to senior representatives
• Make presentations to senior management, owners and consultants to inform and gain their approval of recommendations
• Provide leadership, management direction and guidance to relevant internal and external team members to ensure that they have the necessary information to complete their responsibilities
• Partner with business unit leaders to market and sell the assigned brand to key new and existing owners/franchisees to expand brand recognition and promote development opportunities
• Represent the company at the highest level as a face of the hotel brand and design discipline

• Sell/influence owners/franchisees using Marriott expertise and knowledge to gain more business

• Manage project communication and act as liaison/point-of-contact for owners, franchisees, internal stakeholders and disciplines to ensure excellent service and problem resolution

• Advise, guide, and update owners and franchisees regarding brand and design standards and initiatives

• Responsible for selecting, negotiating and contracting with project consultants, directing and supervising their work, and administering their contracts, approving payment requisitions, etc.

• Obtain approval of funding from Owners, Developers and/or Operations, and ensure work is clearly authorized and proper procedures are being followed

• Make decisions on a project basis, as an innovative problem solver, taking risks working with the design team, Owner, Brand and Operations.

• Lead the development of business processes and monitor processes for continued relevance

• Review projects during all phases to maintain quality, budge and schedule objectives

• Provide day-to-day review of internal and/or external team members’ professional performance and provide input for their improvement and career development

• Manage design consultants, their proposals, contracts and invoicing to project objectives

• Provide project design quality assurance services for projects of appropriate scope and complexity working independently with minimal supervision. This includes project approval (HDC), funding contracts (TSA), plan review, construction observation, turnover, and opening coordination

• Ensure the selection and development of building products relevant to the brand specifications

• Maintain working knowledge of Marriott and competitor brand design, standards and evolving design direction

• Provide design reviews and solutions for feasibility projects working closely with Development, Feasibility and

Operations

• Participate in site visit/market surveys to develop better understanding of site/market demands.

• Provide Criteria/Facilities programs for assigned projects

• Financial and Accounting Management

• Work closely with GD and Marriott Accounting to manage projects within approved budgets.

• Contribute to annual division budgeting process and work to maintain adherence to approved budgets.

• Prepare appropriate fee and expense estimates for Work Orders, DRA/TSA’s, and input on department budget planning.

• Talent Management

• Assist with staff selection and performance management.

• Supervise, direct, motivate and train assigned staff and outsource consultants

• Owner Relations

• Develop and maintain strong, mutually beneficial, trust-based business relationships with owners and franchisees to assure customer satisfaction and promote repeat business.
